Summary report on the effects of the withdrawal of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in Congo “MONUSCO” (Period covered: May-June 2024)
On June 30, 2024, the United Nations Mission in Congo (MONUSCO) announced that it had completed its withdrawal from South Kivu province, although it only withdrew from Mikenge, where it protected two refugee camps. displaced, only on July 5 and at the time of writing, it continues to maintain a presence in Minembwe, on the High Plateaux of Fizi, Uvira and Mwenga. MONUSCO’s withdrawal resulted in the closure or handover of nine of its ten remaining bases in the province. Only the Bukavu base remains open to accommodate the activities of the remaining civilian personnel.
